Gail Nyoka

  · Mella and the N'anga

'Nyoka' means snake in Bantu, so it's no wonder that author and playwright Gail Nyoka has written both a play and a novel in which a snake features prominently. In spite of having an African name, Ms. Nyoka's background is British/Caribbean/Canadian. She was born in Trinidad, grew up in England and Wales and now lives in Ontario. Her interests include researching the history and stories of Africa. Her previous publications include the Chalmers Award-winning stage play Mella Mella. Nyoka is presently working on her second novel for young adults.
