Feminism, Law, Inclusion
This collection of essays written by scholars, activist and legal advocates illuminates the legal position (or lack there of) of women in Canadian society today. There are three sections focusing on theory, organizations, and law from a feminist perspective. Each of these encourages the reader to understand the complexity and importance of the struggles women have faced within the legal system and that the fight continues. There is s an emphasis throughout the collection on how gender strongly plays into all other facets of women's lives and how examining this supports an inclusive approach to change. Several specific cases from the past are mentioned as well as laws that have been changed and some that have not. It is interesting to take a look at how the courts have interpreted laws at different times and how some decisions have even impacted the laws in other countries. Also, how a patriarchical legal system functions for women and what needs to be changed is utterly important.
Anyone with an interest in the struggle for women's equality will benefit from reading the essays in Feminism, Law, Inclusion: Intersectionality in Action. What these essays suggest about positive legal change for women is invaluable.
