Infertility
Old Myths, New Meanings
by Jan Rehner
"A powerful account of loss and healing"
— Toronto Star
"Jan Rehner has written a book which explores the depths of emotions associated with the diagnosis, investigation and therapy of infertility. Anyone who has experienced this serious life crisis will identify with the feelings expressed. Professionals in the field will gain insight into the emotional plight of their patients. I recommend this book to both groups."
— Fred Mandel, MD
It can be devastating. Learning that it may be impossible for you to conceive a child can be one of the most painful experiences anyone may have to confront. With sensitivity and direct language, Jan Rehner, a woman who herself is infertile, presents an insightful examination of the problem of infertility and how to deal with it. Focusing on the feelings, insecurities and experiences of women faced with the condition, she discusses the options available, technologies prescribed and approaches taken, and emphasizes the need for support networks for those confronting infertility.
About the Author Jan Rehner's first mystery, Just Murder, won the 2004 Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Crime Novel in 2004. Rehner has published poetry, literary criticism, a feminist analysis of infertility, and a text on critical thinking. Rehner lives in Toronto and teaches humanities and writing at York University, and is the recipient of several teaching awards. She is releasing her latest book, On Pain of Death in the fall of 2007.
