Masterpiece of Deception

This could claim to be the first 'conservation novel,' as well as being an art mystery. It's also — probably — the first novel written by a conservator, and with the author's real name on the back. There's a photograph too, of Dr. Leslie Carlyle of CCI, currently working as a project leader to the De Mayerne project in The Netherlands. This is her first novel; ... I would pass it to a friend to read, particularly to a friend who knows little about conservation, since the book gives a clear picture of what a "bench conservator" does, including that soul searching while treating a problematic painting. ... It's a fast-moving story and it's very tempting to read on right through to the end. Buy it at the National gallery bookshop in London or through amazon.com.
